These tributes to the first Spanish Milled Dollar, better known as a "Piece of Eight" and fractions thereof were recently minted by the Mexico City Mint in gem proof quality. They weigh 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz., and two are 1/10 oz. each The date of 1732 was the first year of issue. The original coin is pictured in the Red Book as "the forerunners of the U.S. silver dollar and smaller silver coins. The 4th piece is a tribute to an 1862 Peso coin of the Mexican Emperor Maximillian. An interesting official proof set that is rarely offered for sale. Each piece comes in a clear protective capsule.
