Japan's cutest export is finally honored in this year's mint set issued by the Japan Mint. For millions of children growing up in the 70s through the 90's Doraemon was the #1 comic book hero.
2005 marks the 35th Anniversary of Doraemon. Created by Hiroshi Fujimoto in 1970, Doraemon has stood the test of time to become one of Japans top selling comic books.
This year the Japan Mint has issued this year's mint set that contains 6 coins, a 500, 100, 50, 10, 5, and 1 Yen coin along with a specially produced medal depicting Doraemon and inscribed with 2005 and 35th Anniversary in Japanese.
Licensed by Fujiko-Pro, Shogakukan, and TV-Asahi, and produced by the Japan Mint, this set is limited to 200,000 sets worldwide and a sellout is expected. Panda America is the official North American distributor for the Japan Mint.
