Mr. Sam Hui (Samuel Hui Koon-Kit) is a Hong Kong Cantopop musician, composer, singer, songwriter, and actor. He is credited with popularizing Cantopop, and is also known as “God of Song” and “Brother Sam”. His music includes Western-styled music and popular, street Cantonese jargon in his lyrics writing. He received “Hong Kong File Awards - The Swordsman, Best Original Film Song in 1991”.
To celebrate Sam Hui’s 40th Anniversary of “Bauhinia 洋紫荊” song, the Macau Mint has issued a commemorative for this famous song.
Obverse: Featuring the Hong Kong’s map with a pearl, wording “China, Hong Kong” in English and Chinese, and issued year.
Reverse: Depicting a Bauhinia, also known as Blake’s Bauhinia (the city flower of Hong Kong), it is most commonly referred to by its Chinese name of 洋紫荊. The flower is an official flora emblem of Hong Kong and is featured on the state flag as well as on the back of Hong Kong’s circulated coins. It is the original lyricist and composer for this famous song by Sam Hui in 1983, section of this song in Chinese.
