The People’s Bank of China has issued the 600th Anniversary of the Forbidden City Gold and Silver commemorative coins on August 3, 2020.  The Forbidden City is a palace complex in central Beijing, China.  It served as the home of former Chinese emperors and their households and was the ceremonial and political center of the Chinese government from the Mint dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty, between Year 1420 to Year 1924.  The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987 by UNESCO as the “Imperial Palace of the Mint and Qing Dynasties”, due to its significant place in the development of Chinese architecture and culture.  It is currently administered by the Palace Museum.  Each coin depicts the common obverse design of the National Emblem of the People’s Republic of China, Country name and the issuing year.  All issues of this commemorative are considered legal tendered coins of the People’s Republic of China.
