The 2013 World Money Fair will be the first European coin fair since 1997 to be honored with official Panda commemoratives from the China Mint. Two different official Panda commemoratives will be released, featuring two Pandas on the obverse, and a reverse that seamlessly blends two cultures: the Brandenburg Gate, a landmark of the city of Berlin, is featured, as is the Great Wall of China, one of the great wonders of the world. In addition, this will be the first time China has authorized the minting of a 5 ounce Gold commemorative for a European coin fair. Each Berlin Panda commemorative comes with a box & certificate.
Recent Panda commemorative releases for coin fairs in Singapore & Philadelphia have proven to be very successful, and Berlin will be no different. The China Mint has issued Panda commemoratives for coin fairs in Germany before - in the 1990's, Pandas were made for fairs taking place in Munich. These commemoratives are among some of the most sought after Pandas on the market - mintages are low, and that has driven up the market value of all of them. This previous precedent bodes well for the Berlin Panda commemoratives, showing the opportunity for not just a collectible piece, but also as a good long term investment. Quantities are extremely limited and will sell out.
